Wish I could understand the reality behind reality TV shows.
I am guilty of watching trashy reality television and then realizing I could have done something substantial with that time.
Do you feel like you are in the same boat as me?
I am talking about totally garbage shows where participants are expected to be mean, nasty and deceptive!
Or atleast the editing with dramatic music makes it seem that way. More often than not the winners of such shows are those who have the least amount of moral scruples.
On one hand such shows provide a good means of escapism after a long day but on the other hand they represent everything that is wrong with the world.
I mean, what am I going to benefit from watching these wealthy housewives battle one another or these rich kids of some sunny place finding an excuse to party!
Also, I hate contributing to the problem. Unfortunately, the reasons to watch such shows are as strong as reasons to avoid them.
Of course there are shows like “Master-chef “, “Top-Chef” and “Chopped” which give me a thrill of feeling like a winning sportstar in my otherwise sport deprived life.
There is no excitement like rooting for the underdogs and watching them win with a nice warm plate of chicken and broccoli simmered in garlic chilly sauce!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Served: Hot
Serves: 4 People
Ingredients: 1 lb boneless chicken 2 cups broccoli florets 3 garlic cloves finely chopped 1 Tbsp Corn flour Salt + Pepper Sauce: 3/4 Tbsp Soya Sauce 1/2 tsp Olive Oil 2 Tbsp Garlic Chilly Sauce * 1 tsp honey 1 Tbsp Cabernet Sauvignon Wine (Optional) 1 Tbsp Black Pepper *Make your own garlic chilly sauce at home. In a blender, add garlic, red chilly, pepper, salt, sugar and vinegar to a fine paste. Saute finely chopped onions till the rawness disappears and add the chilly garlic paste. Blend this together again in a blender. Let it rest for one hour before using.
Method:
Bring a pot filled with 1 cup water to a boil and steam the broccoli for just 3 minutes. Turn off the heat and drain and rinse it under cold water so that it stops cooking.
In the meantime, marinate the chicken with salt and pepper and keep aside.
In a pot of boiling water, with a half tsp of salt, cook the chicken for approximately 5-6 minutes or until it no longer looks pink.
In a small bowl mix together ingredients listed under sauce.
In a skillet or a pan, add vegetable oil, once the oil heats up add in minced garlic and let it sizzle. To that add the sauce mixture and let it cook for about 1-2 minutes.
If the sauce is too runny add in cornflour little by little and check the consistency (not too thick not too thin)
Add the chicken and mix everything together nicely. Close the lid and let it cook for about 5 more minutes. After that add in steamed broccoli and give everything a good stir. Cook it for 2-3 minutes and serve immediately.
Looks yummy and healthy too..

As for reality tv, I feel bad too, like I could have been bettering myself somehow, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch a particular one regularly.
It’s my number one go to when I’m procrastinating
